Installing guttering
In this episode, Ronny installs guttering along a log cabin and canopy. With rain becoming more frequent and intense, all that water has to go somewhere. A sturdy gutter is important for improving directed drainage. Gutter quality is usually related to material. Gadero carries PVC and high quality galvanised guttering, for example. PVC is more budget friendly and easier to install, but a galvanised gutter has a longer lifespan and a more deluxe look.
Gutter functionality
Aside from being functional (in draining away rainwater), a gutter also adds a more finished look to your log cabin or canopy. If you’re looking to add a new gutter or replace an existing one, then Gadero offers complete gutter kits that make this an easy job - especially with the tips and tricks for installing your own PVC or galvanised gutter shown in this episode. When it comes to guttering, reliability matters; so our gutter kits come with strong, durable brackets.
Gutter installation tips
A canopy with a pitched roof needs gutters and drain pipes on both sides. A pent roof only needs a gutter and pipe at one end. If you’re adding a gutter to a canopy or log cabin with a gable roof, then make sure your roof extends past the walls by about 3 to 5 centimetres. This lets you position the middle of the guttering directly under the edge of the roof by affixing it to the verge or fascia boards - thereby preventing leaks. Gutters are great for directed rainwater removal, but there are other things you can do to reduce the adverse effects of rain - such as improving drainage under your turf.
Choosing guttering
The advantages of PVC guttering:
- Lightweight;
- Easy to install.
A PVC gutter is less durable than one in galvanised steel. If you plan to attach your guttering to a canopy, a galvanised gutter is the recommended choice.
The advantages of galvanised steel guttering:
- Deluxe look;
- Very sturdy construction;
- Long lifespan.
The disadvantage of galvanised steel guttering is that it is more expensive than PVC.
Gadero tip: regularly remove dirt, soil, and leaves from your gutter. Accumulated detritus can clog up the drain and bend it out of shape. We recommend cleaning your gutters at least once a year.
