In this episode of Gadero TV, Ronny shows you how to assemble and finish log cabin Novalie. This prefab timber garden house is perfect for people with a taste for sleek, contemporary design. Flat-roofed cabin Novalie has a single door with all fittings, and comes with glass, fixing materials, and bituminous membrane (10m²) included. The rails under the floor have been impregnated, optimising their lifespan. The floor boards are not treated as standard, but a preservative treatment is strongly recommended. The floor comes with skirting for the sides, which covers up the 1cm gap along the edges. This gap is essential to allow the boards enough room to shrink and expand. Novalie comes with a complete and accessible assembly manual included.
This garden house is 3 metres long by 2 metres wide by 2.39 metres tall. All required fixing materials, roof covering, and a manual are included. The flooring boards are 18 mm in diameter. This kit also includes a cylinder lock to ensure that Novalie can double as a secure storage cabin. This log cabin can be complemented with various optional extras, such as aluminium roof trim, an extra horizontal layer of log cabin boards, and foundation beams.
Foundation for log cabin assembly
Storage shed Novalie can be assembled quickly and easily. Make sure the base is 100% level (using foundation beams with a drainage profile to optimise the lifespan). Mount this base onto a level surface of concrete tiles, poured concrete, or even wooden decking. Foundation beams are recommended for all situations.
This log cabin comes with flooring boards as standard. This flooring rests on impregnated rails with an end size of 4x4cm. The rails are installed across the width of the cabin. We recommend complementing your order with foundation beams. These have a tapered profile to facilitate drainage.
Advantages of log cabin/garden house Novalie
- Perfect for your tools, bicycles, or children’s toys;
- With bituminous membrane (10 m2);
- With wooden floor boards as standard;
- Single door with single glass is included;
- Many optional extras available.
Disadvantages of log cabin/garden house Novalie
- This log cabin does not come as treated timber as standard, but treatment is strongly recommended;
- The optional starter kit is essential for bituminous membrane, and therefore comes strongly recommended.
Durability enhancement
The optional (but strongly recommended) impregnation treatment adds an additional 8 weeks to the delivery date - but it is definitely worth the wait. Not a fan of the standard green impregnation? Gadero also offers treatment with a silver-grey agent. This is the same agent as used for the cabin in the video. An impregnated cabin does not require the application of a staining agent immediately following assembly, but we do recommend using a wood stain after a period of three months from the date of assembly. The most popular option is the use of a transparent wood stain. Novalie requires three 2.5-litre tins of wood stain for a full coat.
Additionally, we recommend a spray-coat of primer - available in white, transparent, or anthracite. This treatment adds an additional 5 to 7 weeks to the delivery date, and can be selected from the optional extras for log cabin Novalie.
Cladding a gable roof timber structure
Ten square metres of bituminous membrane is included as standard. Naturally, other, more durable options are available from the optional extras. When using bituminous membrane, the addition of the optional starter kit is strongly recommended.
Assembly tip 1: To prevent damaging the tongues of the boards (when stacking the boards), use a short section of board and a rubber hammer to tap the boards in place.
Assembly tip 2: Install the ventilation grilles with the opening angled down. Upward-facing grilles create the risk of letting in (rain)water and pooling on the floor of the cabin. Additionally, make sure the grilles are installed on a single layer of boards. When attached to two layers, the grill fixes the boards in place by way of the screws, and restricts the capacity for the timber to shrink and expand.
